#21: Being pro-kid and anti-parenthood

Why parents need their child-free friends

This topic has been brewing in my brain for weeks. In this episode I talk about being child-free by choice in a society obsessed with parenthood. I promise this isn’t a typical “why I don’t want kids” rant.

I talk about loving kids without having them, why JD Vance’s “childless cat ladies” comment is more political BS, and how we’re all missing the point when it comes to community care. I unpack some thoughts on a recent interview between Jia Tolentino and Ezra Klein, and a piece by Ann Friedman. I also share my own experiences as a caregiver, and make a case for why parents should care about this conversation too. I’m so curious if these are even hot takes to you, or if you agree with these points, dear readers.

Remember that if you’re not in a place where you can listen right now (or if you just prefer reading), hit the transcribe button and read the written version. Either way I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one. Add a comment and let’s keep this conversation going.
