#11: Voice Note: Is the marriage narrative outdated?

In this episode I’m questioning the marriage as the end-game narrative that is pushed on us culturally and also by the government. I’m working out my thoughts in real time on this and reserve the right to change my mind. But I am questioning whether marriage is really the best way for everyone to find meaningful connections or if it’s necessarily the best environment to raise a child in.

I start by acknowledging that LGBTQ+ advocates, interracial couples, and anyone who has had to challenge discriminatory marriage laws and also those who view marriage as a sacred religious institution will likely have a different point of view from me. I’m coming from a place of privilege to even be able to contemplate alternatives.

For people like me, whose values and desires point us in a different direction, are there alternatives that could be just as or even more fulfilling than traditional marriage?
